Flexible working: a day-one right to request

You may have read back in 2021, December 1st 2021 was the final day of the UK Government’s consultation on ‘making flexible working the default’ which considers, amongst other proposals, whether the right to request flexible working should be made a day-one right.

At present, all employees in the UK must wait until they’ve been in a job for six months (26 weeks) before they can make a flexible work request as well as being limited to only one request every 12 months. The CIPD launched it’s #FlexFrom1st campaign in 2022, calling on organisations and the UK Government to make this change.

We are making change happen at Silver Cloud HR and are introducing this with immediate effect. Our updated flexible working policy is designed to be flexible and not restrictive!

We recognise that at times, when you least expect it, life throws curve balls and so you need support to make changes to your work/life balance quickly. We are also pleased to announce a move away from ‘one request every 12 months’ because change happens, and happens often, and demands on us change, so our Silver Clouders can make requests through the year as and when they need them (within reason of course!).
